‘Hamilton’ at Eccles Theater moving to July 2021, because of COVID-19

September 22, 2020 by acfix

The musical “Hamilton” won’t be playing at Christmastime in Salt Lake City — but the show will be in town for the Fourth of July.

Broadway at the Eccles, the company that brings touring Broadway shows to downtown Salt Lake City’s Eccles Theater, announced that the national production of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tony- and Pulitzer-winning musical will not have its scheduled run of Dec. 15 through Jan. 17 — because of COVID-19 delays.

Instead, the show has been rescheduled to July 2-25, 2021, Broadway at the Eccles told subscribers in an email Monday evening.

Subscribers are being urged to hold onto their tickets, which will be transferred to the new dates. Refunds will be given if any performance is canceled. Broadway at the Eccles will inform ticketholders of the most recent COVID-19 health and safety protocols before the show date.

The new schedule for the 2020-2021 season sandwiches “Hamilton” between runs of “The Band’s Visit,” June 8-13, and “To Kill a Mockingbird,” running Aug. 3-8.

• “Anastasia,” Feb. 9-14, 2021. (Moved from June 2020.)

• “Jesus Christ Superstar,” March 30-April 4, 2021.

• “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” May 11-18, 2021. (Moved from November 2020.)

• “The Band’s Visit,” June 8-13, 2020. (Moved from September 2020.)

• “Hamilton,” July 2-25, 2021. (Moved from December 2020-January 2021.)

• “To Kill a Mockingbird,” Aug. 3-8, 2021.

• “Ain’t Too Proud,” Sept. 7-12, 2021. (Moved from February 2020.)

• “Frozen,” Oct. 28-Nov. 14, 2021. (Moved from April-May 2020.)

• “Mean Girls,” Nov. 30-Dec. 5, 2021. (Moved from August 2020.)

The productions of “Chicago,” set for October, and “Les Miserables,” planned for next May, have been canceled.
