The tea party was formed in 2009. In an effort to hold onto many Republicans and prevent a split in the party, they chose to incorporate the tea party into the Republican Party.
Now the ultraconservatives have overpowered the majority of the party. Their platform has turned into fear, intimidation, suggesting the death of opponents and succeeding from the U.S. senators are belittling the democracy that got them elected. Attorneys general elect to spend public money on partisan causes. Utah varied its policy by placating whiners who refuse to vote by mail and having to provide polling places.
Do these folks represent the majority of the Republican Party? I can’t imagine Ronald Reagan or the Bushes behaving in public the way Donald Trump has and being applauded for it. Democrats have a similar situation with an extreme left.
There are more than two opinions, so maybe there should be more than two major parties, although there are several minor ones. The Republicans lost many voters this year because people voted less for Joe Biden than against Trump.
According to Trump, the 2024 Republican Convention is all but over. Either he of Don Jr. will run. You now have a few years to decide if you’re going to let the tail wag the dog.
